Hunger in River Falls: Opportunity to serve

On average, the River Falls Community Food Pantry, 222 N. Main St., Suite C, serves some 350 households a month. Beneficiaries live in the River Falls School District.

That translates into giving out each month 25,000 pounds of food and related items to nearly 1,000 families and individuals.

Clearly it’s a big job, a big responsibility.

Those who contribute toward this never-ending and expanding task serve on the Food Pantry’s board of directors: Pam Ballard, Susan Pesheck, Ann Rosenthal, Brenda Yohannes, Renee Peskar, Martha TerMaat, Dan Cernohous, Steve Smith and Rich Pechacek.

Food Pantry Operations Manager Candice Rapley said the board has nine members but can have up to 12. Rapley said “the more on the board the better.”

“With more members we get more good ideas floating around to make improvements and operate more efficiently,” she said. “Having that diversity on the board of directors -- people from all walks of life, whether retired, working out of their homes, in a factory or corporation -- makes us a better-run organization.”

Rapley said the Food Pantry needs board members who are open to innovation and “brave enough to let us know when we need to do things differently.”

Those who apply to be on the Food Pantry’s board should call the store number at 715-425-6880 or email their interest to Those interested can also contact a board member.

Current board members nominate candidates for the entire board to approve.
